The Winner of the Australian Open is…

For surfers who followed this new contest to Australia, it was a mix of great surfing, shocking results, and poor scores for players of Fantasy Pro Surfing. Matt Banting defeated Evan Geiselman in a close match so naturally it seems that I should throw heaps of praise on Matt Banting or Evan Geiselman or even another surfer such as Tomas Hermes. Well, they all should be very proud of what they did but my winner is a winner for a different reason and it will tie into my motivating story that will change your life and make you run out and do something huge. I pick…(drum roll)

Tayler Brothers!

Tayler Brothers from GrindTV.com

What? Tayler Brothers! He did not win the event! Well, there is a method to my madness my friends so let me go off on a very long tangent.

Training and Being Successful

People want to be a success in life and thankfully we have the internet so there are millions of people like myself with blogs who are sharing their secrets. These range from one end of the spectrum such as people who are offering the recipe of their heavenly peanut butter cookies all the way up to the super succesful types who offer their amazing secrets of personal fulfillment and wealth. Well, sadly I have found that many sites, even those that have 10,000 followers, lack any real depth that will lead to any major changes in ones’ life. Many have great headlines such as: “10 Tips to Real Change!” but when you open the page you get lots of this…

  1. Smile at people-It has been proven that many people who smile do better at work.
  2. Dont be friends with criminals-It has been shown that most gang members in prison are friends with other gang members and associating with criminals could cause bad things to occur in your life.

These sites also feature great pictures of eagles with a cool quote like, “Dare to be a winner-Be an eagle!”

Great advice there, huh? Well, I have found one site that actually can help you with your work outs and a common theme being spoken throughout the blogs can be applied to life in general.

RossTraining.com

Ross Enamait is a beast. He does work outs that could possibly kill a normal man. Well, maybe it is not that bad but he can do some amazing things and the cool thing about this site is that he offers great work out tips and he does something that might make other trainers and people in the industry cringe. He recreates work out machines and gear at home and shows how you can get a great exercise session and never leave your house. For instance, Ross has created his own version of the TRX gear and shows how to make your own to use at home thus saving a person a ton of money. This is great for everyone!

Jumping Camels

The best training for jumping? Run and jump!

Besides tackling these issues, Ross talks a lot in his blogs about the one real thing that causes us to fail or succeed. It is something seemingly so small yet it is something that creates a huge impact that ripples throughout our lives. The one problem we all face is “jumping camels”. In his blog, Ross posted a video of some Yemeni men in the Middle East and they are jumping camels and doing a darn good job at it as well. What is so great about men jumping over camels? The lesson is that these men created an outlet for themselves to do something that in the long run is increasing their overall health. The biggest lesson is something deeper. These men did not order the best pair of shoes to get the highest jump possible. They were not worried about resting periods, how many sets to do, which days to work out. They just ran fast and jumped the camels.

Lights! Cameras! Action!
Everyone wants to work out and get healthier or reach other goals such as create the world’s greatest surfing blog. Maybe your goal is to create a business or get a promotion. They always say that if you do not plan you will not succeed. Sometimes though, you can plan so much and you become so involved in the details that you are not seeing that inaction is worse than all the time you are spending creating the world’s greatest plan. What is better? Walking for a mile with your dog and then throwing the ball to him or sitting at home deciding the best machine to buy, what clothes you need for the gym and what workout classes you should take? When you are starting out, anything is better than nothing. When you become more fit, then you can worry about how many sets you have to do or what workout techniques will yield the best results.

The Wrap Up!

I am not a personal friend of Tayler Brothers but I used to work with his aunt and I surf with him from time to time at New Smyrna. Tayler is from the Gulf Coast of Florida which is not exactly known for great surf but it does have its days. Tayler is friends with Evan Geiselman who took 2nd in the Australian Open. In the past, Tayler has had some big wins in the jr. events but as he has grown older, things have not come as easy for him but he is still out surfing and enjoying himself.

I am sure there were many surfers in the event with stories like Tayler but since I know a bit about him; he gets my award for this event. Tayler wins because he did something. Tayler made the decision to fly to Australia and to enter the event. Part of success comes at the hand of trying, even if it means failing. I could name many other young professional surfers from Florida that were not in the event but this is about taking action and he planned and went for it! You could say that he went out early in the event. The reality is that now he has more points and a better seeding than those that did not choose to enter and better yet; he is in Australia!

Keep jumping those camels!

Ross’ blog can be found here. He has an interesting interview from Jack White of the White Stripes. As you can see, this blog goes beyond just doing excercise.  http://rosstraining.com/blog/

  1. I can’t say I am a fan of surfing but I did find your blog amusing. I like the camel jumping. Keep up the work and maybe one day you’ll have your very own camel to jump.

Thanks for directing me here, that was really interesting! Anything is better than nothing! I love the camel jumping reference! 🙂

    Thanks Gina!

I hope this helps out with your quest on being the fastest British woman in Mexico City! There are millions of people there so the odds are there are other expats from the U.K. residing there. By the way, I fully understood your driving situation. I think it is something common to many Latin American countries. Scary to say the least!
