Once again some old photos that yearn for the light!
Shaun Tomson is a class act. The guy gave me some great advice as a kid and I wished that I had listened. I had the fortune of surfing with him again at Ponce Inlet a few years back and he still puts on a great performance.
A real fun day at Pipe. Not the biggest but just had good form. I don’t know why but there was a very small crowd out this day. Got a few pits.
I scaled down from the road to take this picture of a place that if you visit from the water…well, you will probably will not be having a good day.
The wave rolled in and the dog was sitting by the coconut. It just came together for a moment.
Imagine this. You are a kid riding the most beat up, brown board in Hawaii. Then a few months later, you and your brown piece of crap are picking up a 3rd place trophy in the Boys division. Along the way, you are dispatching kids on new thrusters.
Thankfully, the board was promptly retired.
Kid and brown piece of crap in route to the finals.
All pau!
This is so cool, Steve! And impressive! Love the old pics. It can be fun to walk down memory lane… You have any pics with Kelly Slater?
It is weird. I don’t think we have any pics together. When he was younger, he would even have famous surfers stay at his house and no one took a group photo or anything. We just went surfing!
All I have is an old super 8 film of a day when we were surfing the pier and our dads were drinking beer. Typical dads.
All the girls want to see Kelly, don’t they know he’s bald?
You were riding a brown piece of crap but it was an Apia, so you had a huge advantage.
I bought it from a friend and I loved that board! As you can tell…I rode it to the ground.
