Fun at the Mullet Festival!

This summer we were not quite blessed with a lackluster season of surf. At the end of summer, we usually get the hurricane swells and then comes the mullet run right when school starts. So the first few weeks of September are loaded with fish, surf, and predators.

Last year, I put up some photos of the fish, surfers, and the sharks. That is standard for Florida. A hot mess!

This year, the sharks and mullet continued their cycle while some surfers joined them in the tiny peaklets. Finally, the past week we got some real surf.

That's a "Rocket Fish"!

The first sequence is my friend Jim. He just wanted to ride a wave and the circus blew through the line up.

The second is an old friend and excellent surfboard shaper, Sammy Barker. I just like the power and rail usage.

Learn from that kids and you will go far!

That's all folks!

I swiped these from Jim’s and Sam’s Facebook page so I do not know who took these shots.

Here is Jim’s site for some blog love:

You never see this in the tourism commercials for Florida!

“Come to Florida! Relax on the beach as your children frolic through a black cloud of living fish. They will giggle as the sharks and tarpon dart around them!

      Only here…in beautiful Florida!”

You can hire me to spin your next P.R. disaster!

These photos are awesome, if a little unsettling… fins poking out of the sea like that = scary no matter what sea creature they are attached to, hehe! 🙂
