Noise to Note! #28

Just some good old two-toned ska for you!

And a rant!!

Corporations have a magical way of taking something with some spirit and dumbing it down for a buck.

This is for any genre you may like…

Country, hip-hop, punk, rock; it doesn’t matter!

Most of these forms of music came about due to some need to tell a good story and in its infancy; anyone could join the parade. Roy Rogers, Box Car Willy, Agent Orange, Bad Brains, Eric B. & Rakim, Tribe Called Quest, and Arrested Development.

All of these were part of a group of story tellers narrating a tale. Their looks were not important and people loved them regardless.

Now it is more about boasting, selling products, an image, a look, and the message is removed.

The chart toppers in every genre are churning out fist pumping drivel…

“I love a girl in a four wheel drive!”

“In the club, In the club; with my J’s on!”

It’s one in the same.

So back to the video of the English Beat!

This band today would be a nightmare for any record company.

“The guy on the sax is to old!”

“These are black guys and white guys together!”

“Where is the edge? The tattoos! Smoking!”

“What company would want to advertise to this?”

I feel sorry for our kids. I also feel sorry for the musicians and story tellers out there who are shut out because they don’t fit a mold to be an “Idol”.

Record companies are stupid.. I’d listen to this, and within my variety of music genres I probably have something similar.
Although the music of today can be catchy….it’s getting old.

Thankfully now artists can by pass the companies and put their own music out. The only issue is exposure of course.

Also, glad to see you pop up again! I have not seen anything on your blog in ages. Hope all is well in the frozen north!

Yeah which is great, Protest The Hero did that with their new one.

Yeah I got tired of writing the old one! Plus I moved a bunch. Recently decided to change it up to a food blog! Gear towards my career a little bit. All is fantastic, just got our second snow storm. Hope all is well in surf land!
