Noise to Note! #106

Noise to Note!

After a short vacation of 3 and a half weeks, I have decided to return to the grand mansion.

Since yesterday was Halloween and all…here is Social Distortion performing Mommy’s Little Monster from way, way, way back.

I guess like with any genre of music; there are variances in the presentation of the music. The early American punk bands started mainly for social reasons and some were pre-New Wave such as Blondie. They influenced the British wave which were more political. Then came the era of bands such as Social Distortion. Mainly built around skateboarding and as a back lash against the rock star attitude of entitlement and grandeur. Fans piled onto the stage and did other things not associated with a show from Poison or The Rolling Stones. So Social D. is a punk band or hardcore band.

Part of the idea was that it was every day people playing so there was not a uniform…ie, the British punk look of spiked hair and sleeveless jean jackets.

Sadly, it just fell apart and you do not hear a lot of bands like this.
